At what age should I get Botox?
And other common aesthetic questions
by Amy Katsikas, MSN, aCNS-BC
You might be wondering … So why not ask? Here are answers to some of the most common questions about getting started with Botox and other medical aesthetic treatments.
At Pure 111, we hear a lot of common questions about getting started with medical aesthetic treatments. Our experts, Amy, Laura and Susan, tackle some of these topics from misconceptions, surprising benefits and ideal ages for getting Botox and fillers.
At what age should people start getting medical aesthetics treatments?
Most injectable treatments such as Botox can start around age 18 although the majority of our clients come to us a little later. In our experience, there are benefits at every age although the expectations may need to be altered accordingly. Our younger clients also hold stress between their brows, so Botox can make a big difference in this area for them by relaxing those muscles before etched in lines occur. In addition, we will treat many college age students for excessive sweating and TMJ caused from grinding teeth (especially at times of increased stress such as college exams). For the younger client with skin concerns, they start their acne based skincare regimens even earlier! Many skin care clients come in before they start driving to treat mild acne and we can put them on a skin care regimen that help to start great habits.
Is there an age that’s too young or too old?
It is never too early or too late to invest in your skin. The earlier you start, the better! The goal is to relax facial muscles that cause wrinkles before the wrinkle can be etched into their skin. Many clients in their 20s will receive Botox just twice a year for prevention. We call this prejuvenation and it is becoming more and more popular.
Are there any medical benefits to injections – not just cosmetic?
Absolutely! Neuromodulators like Botox or Dysport not only help slow down the signs of aging, but can also help with migraines, hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), amblyopia (lazy eye), spastic muscles, bladder overactivity and even pore size. At Pure 111, we often treat sweating, jaw clenching, headaches and reduce pore size with Botox. For chronic headaches, however, it is sometimes advised to see a neurologist as your treatments may be covered by insurance.
What are some of the most common treatments and services clients request?
Our most common injectables are Botox and fillers. Botox is great for fine lines and wrinkles, but sometimes filler is needed to get deeper lines to soften. Filler is also a great way to plump the skin and lips by providing hydration with hyaluronic acid from the inside out. Our most common skin care treatments are Hydrafacials and laser treatments. Hydrafacials clean the skin deeply to give you that healthy skin glow. Lasers are a quick way to erase sun damage and turn back the signs of aging!
What are the biggest misconceptions of facial aesthetics?
The biggest misconception about facial aesthetics treatments is that you will look fake or not like yourself. At Pure 111, we pride ourselves on helping you enhance your unique features. Our goal is for you to walk out of our office looking refreshed and never overdone.
